From the liner notes of "Atlas", released in 1990.......
An ancient, advanced civilization near the center of the galaxy receives radio Signals from a region of space previously thought to be uninhabited.
A small exploratory ship, the Floating Doarphalleous, carrying a two man crew, Xlyo and Zeep, is launched to investigate these signals.
This ship is equipped with the latest direct brain interface, accessed by a small jack on the back of the crews neck, allowing these Console Cowboys to control the ship directly with their thought waves. This system usually works well, unless the thoughts of the crew wander, in which case the ship pretty much does what it wants.
This happened to Zeep, who became distracted with memories of a Childhoods Dream, and nearly got Xylo and himself fried passing too close to a Star Cluster, and pulverized by straying into the midst of an interplanetary war involving several minor systems (Drums of Doom).
Of course, the incident when the ship tried to open the main hatch (Decompression) will never be reported by Zeep, who learned his lesson about daydreaming while interfaced with the ship.
Will our intrepid heroes of the Floating Doarphalleous Expedition ever reach the source of these mysterious signals?......
